Iron Man

Post done for the Irish Sketch Soc on Facebook. I’ve never been a Iron Man comic collector, in fact I think I only have one comic and one graphic with Iron Man starring in it, and in saying that, I was on Captain America’s side in Civil War…….shame how that one ended…….so not knowing much about this character and doing an illustration about him was laboured from start to finish.

I’m not one for getting super hero poses down, so I used a manikin 3d body for me to base the sketch off. I spent a lot longer on this painting last night than I expected. Fleshing out the metallic aspect of Iron Man was tough, also trying to balance rough brushes, hard shadows and metallic light reflections was getting to me by the end of the image. Here is the process:

Celtic Warrior

Post done for the Irish Sketch Soc on Facebook

It was a lot of fun to do, very quick brushes and then I spent most of my time playing with lighting. Here are some of the other lighting ideas I was toying with.

*Update* – I’ve taken the warrior out for a finished piece……..

Might revisit that warrior when I have the time.

Joker

Done for the Irish Sketch Soc ………… this week’s theme was the Joker, so I decided to do a homage to one of my favourite comics of all time, ‘The Killing Joke’ by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland. It was also a great excuse to re-read the graph this week, not like I haven’t read it a million times.

Here is the progression, with Red hood’s pill like head I just had the urge to start things off in 3d for a change and then finished the painting off in photoshop after the basic colours were done and set up.

Leprechaun’s this Paddys Day – King Brian

Sketch done for the ‘Irish Sketch Soc‘ on facebook. It was created using a mix of ‘procreate’ and ‘inkpad’ on the iPad. The theme for the Sketch Soc was ‘Leprechauns for Paddy’s weekend’. Seen as everyone gets sloshed before 3pm on Paddy’s day…….this pic was inevitable.

darby

For anyone who doesnt know, King Brian is the Leprechaun from ‘Darby O’Gill and the little people’. He loves an olde tipple and a dance, to which he gets very loose.

And for the iPad process………

Becoming Poets and Scholars

Sharon and myself have been brewing mead over the past couple of months. We got to bottle the batch last night. Our Mead was not crafted from the blood of Kvasir, so it cant offer people poet or scholar qualities but it tastes nice and I bet if you drink enough of it, it will make you think about philosophical matters
